Class 42 gets connected on facebook!

Dear classmates,

I just created a group of our class on Facebook which helps us getting connected more easily! We can have all our contacts and share events by it! Btw, it's a closed group only for our classmates! Please all come and join!!!

PS. Since it's a closed group we can have our contacts more privately on the "Discussion board" than post it here.

Much Love,
Alice :)

WEEKEND MUSIC

How could you be a Londoner
without M-U-S-I-C?!

Everytime I travel, my ipod is my best companion. What more can be so exhilarating than walking down Oxford's street while pumping up awesome tunes in your ears? If you're a music junkie like me, here are some of my recommendations of Local British talents to rock up your London experience this weekend. :)

With their chart toppers 'Don't Upset The Rhythm' and 'Saturday Night', THE NOISETTE has already taken up London by storm. Their album 'Wild Young Hearts' was a best seller when it was first released in 2008.The lead singer Shingai Shoniwa's soulful voice, mixed with the band's catchy rock tune equals an awesome soundtrack for your London adventures!

If you're a fan of haunting voice, tribal drums, and beautiful instrumentations, look no further because FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE will explode your mind with their cosmic tunes! Despite her fragile beauty, the singer, Florence Welch, can really scream the most powerful alternative ballads you'll ever hear.(i.e. 'Cosmic Love', 'Rabbit Heart') Their album "Lungs" is out now and has been winning many awards as it is claimed to be one of the best albums of 2009.

Lastly, if you're more of a Electronic/Pop fan, FRANKMUSIK is the guy you don'w want to miss. Growing up in Croydon , Vincent Frank (aka Frankmusik) was a former student of CSM and LCF(yes!), a beatbox champion and a self taught composer since very young age. Frank recently won his fans hearts with his release of the long-anticipated debut album 'Complete Me'. With tracks like '3 Little Words' and 'Confusion Girls' already playing in night clubs all over London, He's on his way to become the new pop icon of our time.

Have a 'rock n roll' weekend!

Take Care

I feel pretty sick today...........
That's really bad~

Since we r kind of new here,
we might take extra precautions from getting ill.
Do u know,
we r extremely vulnerable:
1.Lack of Exercise
(we r probably not a member of any gym yet.)
2.Unpredictable weather
(it's sometimes cool, sometimes quite hot, sometimes rainy hard here.)
3.Heavy Workload
(Going to English class,musuems,doing project,exibision review,diary,essay)
are NOT easy.)

SLAVE TO FASHION.

How could you be a Londoner without P-A-R-T-Y?!

This Saturday 15th, join me and the cool people of London at "Slave to Fashion" at BEACH BLANKET BABYLON, Shoreditch. Hosted by the notorious Daniel Lismore, the party is set for the crazy Avant-grade artistic attitude. Although, this will be my first party since I got here, from the pictures and reviews, I have a feeling that it'll be a good good night ;)

\\\\\\
BLAG MAGAZINE: "GRAHAM STRUTTED AROUND IN HIS HEELS, OUTRAGED MY GUESTS ACTING SEXUALLY WITH BOYS, LICKED MY FACE AND STUCK HIS TOUNGUE OUT AT ME LIKE A CAT!"
\\\\\\\\\\\
EVENING STANDARD: "LONDONS COOLEST DRESS UP CLUB"
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
LONDON LITE: "BEACH BLANKET BABYLON IS UBER HIP, ITS FULL OF THE COOL AND BEAUTIFUL, JUST LIKE WALKING INTO A DOLCE AND GABANNA ADVERT!""

HYDE PARK

Sunny weather was something really wonderful about last weekend, so on Sunday I went for a walk to Hyde Park. The territory is huge! Mostly it is covered with grass and trees, also there are some flower gardens and even two ponds: Round Pond and The Serpentine, where one can see different species of ducks.

If you want to sketch or take pictures, have a walk or a picnic that is a perfect place. In the cafe near The Serpentine the whole pig is roasted every Saturday and Sunday starting from 11 am, besides there are many spots where you can get sandwiches, ice-cream, tea and coffee.

Or...just relax on the grass and get some tan!

So, what about a picnic on next Saturday?

Hussein Chalayan

Last week, I went to Dover Street Market, a famous multi brand store. It stocks some of very interesting brands such as Martin Margiela, Comme des Garcon, Azzedine Alaia, Haider Ackermann, Ann Demeulemeester and Undercover.

website: doverstreetmarket.com

And the one I am going to talk about is Hussein Chalayan, a Tirkish London based avant gard designer. To me, Chalayan is admirable in his extraordinary talent in creating avant gard conceptual but yet wearable clothes. And what ran into my mind when i first saw his real AW 2009 piece is that his in store pieces still contain the same consistent message as he tried to communicate thru his runway show. And certainly, it's yet attractive to his customers. Unlike some of other conceptual designers. their in store piece contain only a slight touch of their runway concept.

Hussein Chalayan AW 2009-2010

Here is a part of the most memorable Hussein Chalayan's show of mine.

I can't find the full vidio of this show but u can watch it in husseinchalayan.com. it's from his AW 2000 collection.

Merchant Archive--Nostalgic Evocations and Contemporary Inspirations

Last week I went to Queen's Park for flat hunting, having gained nothing satisfied. However, not entirely empty-handed , I found a exquisite store beyond my expectation.

As the website described, Merchant Archive is a vintage and contemporary lifestyle shop which has grown from modest beginnings into a hub for stylists, fashion, interior designers and celebrities alike. I found a lot of extremely delicate Victorina as corsets, dresses with exquisite embroidery, hats dramatically decorated with precious and colourful feathers, antique furnitures and so on. And there are also some contempotary collections created by independent young designers.

What deserves to be mentioned is the brilliant black and white photographs by Marco Sanges, an Italian Photographer who now lives and works in London. Reminiscent of Film Noir, Sanges' enchanting and powerful images visually shocked me, kinda beauty of dark and secret.

Without exception, the visiting card is kind of sweet poetic melancholy.

Brick Lane - A good choice on Sundays

Such an neat place. Since I've got here in London I have visited so many places and have realized London is not a city for english people only, but for citizens from the hole world. Today, at Brick Lane, I found where cool people from everywhere hang out on Sundays. It is a great market spread in streets made of bricks, where old, but very useful items were exposed. A kind of vintage and retro fair. There was also a square where we could find foods from all over, including Brazil. When the sun goes down, visitors invade the pubs and lofts playing lounge music, to have a drink and lots of fun. Cool music, cheap items, different people. A day to remember and a wonderful choice on Sundays.

Chinese Chic and Cheap

Hided in a gallery near Carnaby Street (which is a very fashionable street in Soho), there is Chinese restaurant chain: Cha Cha Moon. The point is very stylish and, at first glance, it may seems to be over budget for students. However, it serves really cheap meals. From about £5 to £7 you can have many kinds of noodles- their speciality. One of my favourite dishes calls ‘XO Vermicelli’, which is basically prawn, Xo sauce (?) and rice vermicelli. A bit spicy though, but I love it! If you are not in a mood for spicy food, you should try the ‘Crispy duck tao mian’ or the ‘Seafoof ho fun’, both are delicious. All are pretty big, so don’t order a starter if you are not starving or with friends around to share. For drink? Definitely, the Shibuya Casual, a very girlie drink mixed with lychee, sake and martini. Open from breakfast till late in the evening. Last tip: try to don’t go in rush hours, specially in the weekend; otherwise you may find yourself joining the queue. -MARINA PETTI

Watching The English

This book, called Watching the English, is for anyone who wants to understand British behaviour in all kind of aspects. With humour, Kate Fox- the author- writes a mix of rules to follow in different situations; such as a conversation in a pub, how to flirt in a party, dress codes, how to pick up things from their humour, taboos in sex, and many others. The book is divided in two parts: conversation codes and behaviour codes. Actually, it is not only about understanding quirks, habits and foibles of the English people, it is also about having a great time and a good laugh. Besides, you won’t find any difficult looking for a copy, most of the good bookshops have it. For us, the nearest one (as far as I’m concerned, may be Kieron can help us better) is Borders, in Oxford Street. Go for it! –MARINA PETTI

I ♥ LONDON ZOO

Weekend's Headline---

Nothing to do with FASHION but NATURE !!!!

Sunny Sunday+Amazing Zoo+Lovely Friend= Happy Weekend!

Visting zoo is always my favourite outdoor activity because I ♥ animals. It was Shallman's idea and thank her for the heavenly day.

Here are some photos. Hope these Lovely animals awake childlikeness and playfulness deep in your heart. Enjoy it!

Giraffes--They are my NO.2 favourite animals ( No.1 must be Panda! :D).

They're born to have broad horizon. They're always elegant and carefree.

Sometimes maybe we can slow down just like them and life can be easier as well.

Lovely otters standing up
Western Lowland Gorilla--Sometimes as lonely as man
Photographs on the wall--Guess their feelings!
Meerkats--standing on its hind legs and looking around
Himalayan Newt-it's very funny and I looked at them more than 10 mins......
Eastern white pelican--Frankly speaking, it scared me when he opened his mouth.
Amazing jellyfish~~
Let's go back to childhood through this magical tunnel:D
Hope all of you forever young.....
